Worship with the Spirit
WORSHIP WITH THE SPIRIT Before we can worship in spirit and truth we must have within us the One whose name is the Holy Spirit and the "Spirit of truth" (John 14:17). He lives only within those who have come to Christ in repentance and faith. Without Him true worship will not happen. We’re told in 1 Corinthians 12:3 that "no one cans say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ except by the Holy Spirit." That doesn’t mean no one is capable of speaking such words apart from the Holy Spirit, it means no one can say them as an act of true worship unless motivated by the Holy Spirit. He is the One who reveals God to us and makes Christ irresistible, who teaches us the truth of Scripture, who makes alive hearts that were dead toward God. He is the One who makes hearts that were cold toward worship flame with passion for Christ. — Donald S. Whitney, SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES FOR THE CHRTISTIAN LIFE. Chapter 5, "Worship . . .
