An Effective Worship Leader
"effective worship leader." AN EFFECTIVE WORSHIP LEADER An effective worship leader, aided and led by the Holy Spirit, skillfully combines biblical truth with music to magnify the worth of God and the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, thereby motivating the gathered church to join him in proclaiming and cherishing the truth about God and seeking to live all of life for the glory of God. —Bob Kauflin, in a recent issue of his e-mail column "Worship Matters" for www.crosswalk.com. Kauflin is Director of Worship Development for PDI Ministries. Please visit their web site at www.pdinet.org/music. I strongly recommend Bob’s weekly column and the various worship resources available from PDI’s worship ministry. [Do you remember when the term "worship leader" first began to be used in the Christian church? When I was in high school, it was a "minister of music" who had a strong impact on my life and future ministry. I have worshiped in many churches where the senior minister was really the "worship leader" while the "song leader" or "director of music ministry" led all the music. One also comes across positions like "worship pastor," "pastor of music," "pastoral musician," "organist/choirmaster," "cantor," and "leader of the praise team." When it come right down to it, I like to pray that the Holy Spirit will lead us in worship. Do these titles matter? What do you think?] Have a great week, Chip Stam Director, Institute for Christian Worship School of Church Music and Worship Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Louisville, Kentucky carlstam@aol.com www.carlstam.org www.sbts.edu |
