"Freely, for the Love He Bears Us"
know that I am a friend and fan of British hymnwriter, Bishop Timothy Dudley-Smith. Today’s quote is an appropriate text for any time the church celebrates the Lord’s Supper; in fact, it is a poetic rendering of the Memorial Acclamation ("Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.") FREELY, FOR THE LOVE HE BEARS US Freely, for the love he bears us, God has made his purpose plain: Christ has died and Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Christ has died, the world’s Redeemer, Lamb of God for sinners slain: Christ has died and Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Christ is risen, high-ascended, Lord of all to rule and reign: Christ has died and Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Christ is coming, King of glory, firmly then the faith maintain: Christ has died and Christ is risen. Christ will come again. — Timothy Dudley-Smith, from A VOICE OF SINGING: THIRTY-SIX NEW HYMNS WRITTEN BETWEEN 1988 & 1992.
