Losing the Lives of Our Dreams
the senior minister at National Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. LOSING THE LIVES OF OUR DREAMS "I have become convinced that Christianity is fundamentally an experience in losing the lives of our dreams in order to receive the lives that Jesus died to give us." -- Craig Barnes, *When God Interrupts: Finding New Life through Unwanted Change,* IVPress, 1996 [The first time I read this, it made me squirm. I was very uncomfortable with the thought of being called to give up my dreams; but then I remembered the rich young ruler and the eye of the needle (Luke 18), and Jesus' troubling words about losing my life (Matthew 10:39), or his encouragement to be the servant, not the master (Matthew 20:26). WOW! How could the great healer say, "For judgment I came into the world, that those who do not see may see; and that those who see may become blind"? (John 9:39)] Lord, forgive our blindness and give us sight. Help us to see the difference between the "lives of our dreams" and the lives that you want for us.
